There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker.
If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get old. Fast.
Falling in love with the girl who had at first seemed immune to it, was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him into their family when he was five. But loving the girl who has her fair share of secrets is about as easy as that same girl loving the boy who seems to have none.
As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch, and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they begin to wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one.
As push comes to shove and choices aren’t only needing to be made, but forced to be made, Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other.
Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents, go on to expect a promising future? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it.
Our Review:
Reviewed by Donna ~ 4.5 shiny Jesse I love you stars!!
**ARC received for honest review**
“Because, Rowen. Because the day you don’t miss me is the day we’re doomed”
I have missed Jesse…when Lost and Found finished, I was in a very bad state of Jesse withdrawal and so I was so stoked to be able to get an ARC of Near & Far and I was in no way disappointed. Actually, my Jesse Walker fangirling just got a heck of a lot worse!!
This book continues where Lost and Found finished, Rowen is at college over 500 miles away from Jesse who is still on the ranch. They are trying to make the long distance relationship work, which is always going to be difficult considering the intensity of this couples relationship, daily phone calls and 2 weekly visits can only go so far to appeasing the need that they both have for each other.
We are introduced to a couple of new faces…Jax is a TA in Rowen’s art classes and Jolene is the hired help to help Mrs Walker now that Rowen is away at college. Jolene is Josie’s cousin, Miss Beauty Queen, Miss I Love Myself, Miss Flirty and Miss Trouble with a capital T. Garth is there in all is effing glory and I must admit, despite his assholeish ways in the first book, he really redeems himself in this one, in fact, he is so good I hope that Nicole devotes a book to him, because I bet his story is going to be interesting..and for someone so dead set on being pussy whipped I cannot wait for him to fall in love and really “get it”. He needs some love in his life.
“Best friend, eh?” I glanced over at him. He was still curled up. Eyes closed and expressionless. Showing physical emotion was toxic to Garth. “You’re my only friend, Jess. You win the best title by default.”
Awwwww, see what I mean, heartbroken….he needs love, come on Nicole, give our Garth some love!!
With the introduction of these new characters, we have those ugly traits come bubbling to the surface, something that neither Jesse nor Rowen have had to deal with before. Sometimes it can be ugly but sometimes it can be the wake up call needed. Jealousy can be good for a relationship for a relationship, can make you appreciate what you have, but if it you let it eat at you and fester then it can also be extremely detrimental. You will have to read and see how Jesse and Rowen deal with this new aspect to their relationship.
All I can say, without giving away too much, is the emotion from Lost and Found is continued in this book, I had tears…lots of tears..there is angst, there is drama, there are twists and turns but it is all edge of your seat stuff that has you turning them pages as quick as you can. Some of Jesse’s background is revealed in this and it is truly heart wrenching, Jesse also proves that he is human in this book and totally not perfect, even strong men break sometimes.
The love that Jesse and Rowen have for each is apparent in spades…the chemistry oozes off the pages, you feel their emotions, you live their story and you can’t help but become emotionally invested in them as a couple. This is what I love about Nicole Williams’s style, every book she has written I have felt everything and that is no mean feat!!
“When I moved inside of her, our combined sighs filled the room. And when our breathing turned into something heavier, I felt her unspoken words in her touch. She’d never loved, or never could love, anyone like she loved me. Rowen Sterling consumed me.”
This is a must read, and an amazing sequel and quite frankly, I just want more. I could read about this couple forever!!
