“Worse than falling in love. Worse than hating someone. Falling out of love was much, much harder.”
I have to admit that this was my first read by this author and I can honestly say it won’t be my last. I loved everything about this book, from the characters, the settings, to the plot and the style of writing. This book was so different from the norm and I personally found it so relatable. Yes, this is a book about a person that cheats, but unfortunately cheating is real to life and it does happen, but really, cheating is not what this book is about, it is so much deeper than that. This book is about taking stock of your life, reflection and having the guts to do something about it. While the character in this book may not go about it the right way, sometimes you never know when you are going to meet “The One” and more often than not it happens when you least expect it.
“When something feels so good, you find a way to convince yourself that it’s okay.”
As you can gather from the blurb Mischa had all intentions of having a one night stand. Even though it is not an excuse, her husband had been distant, both day to day and in the bedroom, she felt unwanted and unloved. Mischa just wanted to “feel” something even if it was for just one night. However, what Mischa did not anticipate, was finding “The One.” That intentional “One Night Stand” became so much more.
“It would’ve been depressing, if his tongue hadn’t felt so good, if his fingers hadn’t felt so amazing. They erased everything. Her past, her future, her present. Gone, with one thrust. All that existed was this man, this room, this bed.”
Even though what Mischa was doing was wrong you couldn’t help but get whisked away in her story and I found myself rooting for her on all levels. Every woman wants to feel desired, to feel wanted, feel cherished and loved and that was all she ever wanted. She was a beautiful woman and she just wanted to feel that way. Both her and her husband had become complacent and when she found herself looking back it was easy to pinpoint. She soon realises that although she loves her husband, she loves him like the best friend they have always been. They are just no longer “in love.” Staying together just made sense, it was routine, it was easy, it was safe and…it was life.
“I was drunk on him. High on him. I wanted to swallow him down, inhale him, inject him. I wanted him to live under my skin and change my DNA. I wanted to live in his air and breathe his passion.”
Tal, was definitely 100% all male, he was cocky, confident and had that aura around him of mystery and intrigue. Although at times I found myself questioning his motives, as the story progresses you soon see that actually, this is the real deal for him too. But with mystery and intrigue there are usually secrets and considering the place that Mischa is in at the moment, secrets can only lead to trouble.
“They have a word especially for people like me…”
“And what word is that?”
“Lover.”
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, along with the tale of romance and passion you have that interwoven with mystery and intrigue so this book pulls you in from all angles. While my heart was being whisked away with their tale of love and passionate encounters my brain was constantly working, reading between the lines and trying to work out just what was going on right in front of me. This for me was one of those un-put-down-able reads; from the first till last page I was totally immersed in the story that Stylo Fantome was unleashing on the pages. It was intense, it was beautiful, it was heart breaking, it was hot, it was romantic, and it was just so good and totally captivating.
“You made me come alive, and I didn’t even know I was dead. I was just some guy, before you. You made me a man.”
