Book Description:

New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journalbestselling author J. A. Redmerski brings us a heart-wrenching, stand-alone new adult novel.

You can follow the rules or you can follow your heart...

Sienna Murphy never does anything without a plan. And so far her plans have been working. Right after college, she got a prestigious job and gained the stability she'd always craved - until work takes her to the sun-drenched shores of Oahu and places her in the path of sexy surfer Luke Everett. For the first time, she lets her heart take control. Drawn to his carefree charm, she makes a spontaneous and very un-Sienna-like decision to drop everything and stay in Hawaii for two more weeks.

Luke lives fast and wild. When he meets Sienna, he's convinced that some no-strings-attached fun is just what she needs. As their nights quickly turn from playful to passionate, Luke can't deny the deep connection he feels. But there's a reason Luke doesn't do long-term. He can't promise Sienna forever, when the enormity of his past has shown him just how fragile the future can be . . .

“Ultimatums come with consequences. And resentment.”

As usual with JA Redmerski this was an extremely well written book, the author’s voice was flawless as ever and I could picture myself in Hawaii with this couple. This is one of those books that would be an ideal holiday read, it is easy going, nothing too angsty but more a book of reflection, falling in love, and as the title states “letting go.”

“Because…I found something more worth dying for.”

For me this book was a bit slow going in places but my attention was kept with wanting to know the characters back stories, wanting to know their stories that they were too scared to tell and trying to read between the lines. While my hunches were correct when certain circumstances were revealed I have to say I had a very glassy eyed moment.

Most of us in this world work to live, to pay the bills, pay the mortgage and just generally survive. Never having enough to do what we would love to do but safe in our monotonous jobs knowing that the bills would be covered. When you take all those pressures away and live for the moment, what would you do? If you stripped back everything to basics, the bare necessities, earned enough to survive but gave you time to do something for you, would you take that leap?

“I wish I’d never left Hawaii.”

Love finds you when you least expect it, just a glance, a glimpse of that someone, but that someone stays in your mind, you take that leap, you converse and somehow with that one little conversation you give a little piece of yourself away, this is one of those books.

Sienna was on Hawaii for work, just for a few days, until she met Luke. Luke had that carefree attitude, but these two just clicked. You could tell that Luke had his own issues underneath that carefree façade that he had firmly in place and Sienna couldn’t help but be drawn under Luke’s spell. For the first time ever, Sienna does something for herself and she stays on the island for two weeks vacation at Luke’s request. Here begins a love story that you cannot help but get swept away in.

“Because fear is like a vampire…and I’m tired of letting the bastard suck the life out of me.”

Fears and insecurities are at the forefront of this story and each one is dealt with together. Facing up to fears and challenges and tackling life head on with Luke’s contagious enthusiasm at the helm. Holiday romances are sometimes just that but you could tell that these two had longevity, they had a connection, one that neither had felt before and you couldn’t help but champion them along, hoping that the obstacles that they had to climb were just speed bumps rather than mountains.

“I was sure I was gonna die that day…but I was more tired of being afraid of everything than I was of dying. It was like I was already dead, letting fear ruin what life I had.”

This would have been a solid four star from me had it not dragged in places, but none the less, still a story I thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot wait to see what comes next from this author.

“Drink the sky.”
“I drank the sky and brought an angel down with me.”
