Meet River & Marley in this emotionally twisted - unconventional stand alone by Lisa DeJong
Book Description:
My story isn’t a love story … not the typical kind anyway. As a lawyer, I’m used to discovery, but I never saw this one coming.
Every day, River gives me ten reasons to stay away, and then eleven reasons why I can't. Our relationship was to remain strictly business, or at least I tried.
Four years of marriage, and everything with Cole has changed. I never knew two people who lived together could be so distant. But I’m not ready to give up on him.
One man wants to break me.
The other is just trying to get even.
Both are lying to me.
***This is a standalone contemporary romance (though a little unconventional and twisted!)

Excerpt:
“Do you shower yourself in arrogance every morning, Mr. Holtz? You may want to use a little less next time.” My toes curl in the water, but I hold my voice steady.
He grips my hips, sliding my body close to his. If his cock is any indication, he’s just as turned on by this back and forth as I am. “Just admit you like it. You like having someone take care of your every need. You like having all my attention, and you definitely like my cock.”
“River,” I breathe as he kisses a line from my jawline to my shoulder.
“Admit it. You like me,” he says, his lips moving against my skin.
My fingers curl against his back. “Make me,” I taunt, enjoying the way he teases.
He groans, his lips pulling away from me. He stares, his eyes only inches from mine. He’s baiting the truth, but something tells me he already knows. And, I can’t stand that he’s not touching me, not when his words still play over and over in my head. I want to know what he’s capable of; it’s hard to believe I haven’t already seen and felt the best of him.
He cocks his head to the side, and I can’t take it. “I kind of like you. Now, kiss me.” As I hear my own words, I realize they’re true. I kind of like River Holtz, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about that.
“Kind of?” he asks, lifting his brow.
Damn him. If someone would have told me eleven days ago when River walked in my office that I’d be telling this man I like him let alone naked in his tub, I would have called them crazy. “I like you,” I blurt before pressing my lips to his. I’m completely consumed. Addicted.

“I can’t go on much longer…not
like this.”
So, Lisa de Jong really got me with this one. This was a
book I went into totally blind, for me the best way and while I was expecting
the emotional being that this is Lisa de Jong what she also delivered was that
air of mystery too. This is a standalone read that is fast paced, intense, sexy
and has twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.
“We’re stronger than our
mistakes.”
Marley Mason has been with her husband since college, they
had matured together and followed each other through law school, both becoming
lawyers and then taking over Cole’s father’s law firm. Marley had always followed
Cole, even though she was a hard headed lawyer, as far as Cole was concerned
she was soft putty in his hands.
Cole Mason was a lawyer personified, he lived for work and
making money and he wanted lots of it, success was his motivation. With more
and more hours spent at work and away on business he always put the law firm
first with Marley coming in second. While in the beginning Cole was the
attentive husband Marley has been feeling the distance between them growing on
a daily basis, in fact, she has never felt so alone. Being left behind once
again, Marley throws herself into work and the client that Cole that has passed
onto her as once again he is away on business.
“Sometimes having everything
means nothing at all.”
River Holtz is a club owner that is desperate to open
another club in an area that is fiercely contesting the planning; he needs
Marley’s help in trying to get the permits he needs. River exudes confidence
and charisma and is a total flirt and he doesn’t tamper down his charms on
Marley. Marley in the first instance knocks him back but soon even she is
unable to resist the intense pressure that is River Holtz. Finally feeling
fancied and wanted, everything she has been missing with Cole, Marley seeks
solace in another man’s arms. Is it too late for Marley and Cole; is there a
future for Marley and River?
“He’s untouchable – unobtainable –
and I’m married.”
Lisa de Jong weaves a story where what we are lead to
believe is not always as it seems. People are not who or what they seem and it
is this air of suspense that really leaves you turning those pages. While I had
guessed some things, others I never saw coming and I love it when an author is
able to do that. Yes this book does contain cheating so it will not be for
everyone, but as I said above, appearances can be deceptive and once you
understand the story everything falls into place.
“Lines, River.”
“I don’t see them, Marley.”
This was a quick read for me as I was anxious for the story
to unravel and fill in all those unanswered questions and theories that were
running a mile a minute. This book was engrossing, entertaining and enjoyable
and I totally loved it. Once again, Lisa de Jong has delivered a winner.
“I’ve never known of anything
good that came from a lie.”
