“And I didn’t forget the PS. Just not sure you’re ready to read it yet. PS…”

This was a really cute and quick read, but for so few pages this little novella really packed a punch.

Katie Lovely was a twenty-four-year-old English school teacher and for part of her syllabus she decided to enrol them in the “adopt a marine” programme. All they had to do was write letters to those men serving the country overseas to give them mail to look forward to, to bring a smile to their faces. One of her students had transferred out and so one marine was left without a pen pal. So to avoid someone being left out Katie decides to put pen to paper.

“I’m the one unworthy of you. You’ve given me something I thought I could never have. Made me open up to life. Filled me with confidence.”

Sergeant Major Mark Gunner has been in the marines all his adult life, he had dedicated himself to the service and so had no ties to anyone, now approaching retirement he was finally realising just how lonely he was, however he felt it would have been unfair to have put a woman through his missions and so had put his happiness on the back burner. He had never put himself out there, however, one letter changed all that. Just a few words meant so much and it is not long before Sergeant Major Mark Gunner finds his heart.

“She’s been the one since she sent me the first letter, and she’s been mine ever since.”

Katie was a shy wall flower and I loved how she felt she could tell Mark everything as she was hidden behind a pen and paper. Her baked goods meal packs that she sent, were made with love and you could tell that she was just as smitten with Mark as he was with her. It was great to see just how much a simple letter could have such a positive effect and the change in Mark as time went on was great to see. These two really got to know each other through their letters as Mark’s service continued but what would happen when their time came to an end?

I loved the fact that this book was more about learning and trusting each other, both Mark and Katie were relationship novices and the fact that these two spent so much time getting to know each other really let all their guards down when they were not feeling so vulnerable. This was all about the slow build and the letters were swooningly heart-warming.

This was a great quick read and PS… I loved it.
