“I totally believe in fate.”

After having Ethan Holt’s story in the first two books of this series, now is the turn of his younger sister Elissa. Unlike her brother, Elissa was not one for hamming it up on stage, Elissa’s forte was behind the scenes and she was one of the best stage managers in the business. While she was successful at work, her personal life was virtually non-existent. Six years prior Elissa had lost “the one” and no man had ever matched up to him yet. Even though he broke her heart she still loved him and couldn’t forget him, a situation exacerbated by the fact he was now a famous actor and she couldn’t ever escape him, he was always there, on films, on the news, on the cover of magazines and now he was engaged…and now he just walked into her theatre as the leading role of her new production…and his co-star…his fiancée. What had she ever done to deserve this?

“Years ago I saw a magazine article that claimed everyone should have their heart broken at least once in order to become a better person. It said that the pain of losing someone you love will teach you about yourself. Develop your strength and resilience… Whoever wrote that article can go fuck themselves.”

Liam, Liam, Liam…where do I start…I adored him, I wanted to slap him about a bit but there was no denying that he had always regretted walking away from Elissa, it was his one regret and the one that still affected him to this day, even more so now that Elissa was standing in front of him. While we are not told from the beginning why Liam walked away I had my own theory and the line my mind was going down was in fact correct. While I understood the whys, I wish he would have been honest from the start, it could have saved a lot of heartache for both of them.

“And I have the strongest feeling that having part of you is going to be better than having all of anybody else.”

I loved that we experienced first-hand how Elissa and Liam first met, and while their first encounter was all too brief, it no less packed an emotional punch and Leisa Rayven really managed to convey just how insanely attracted these two were to one and other. As Elissa’s boundaries are pushed these two fight the push and pull until they are finally free to be together, until the next day, they were not. Heart broken, kept in the dark, not fully understanding the complete one eighty, Elissa nurses her broken heart with the aid of her best friend and now history seems to be repeating itself.

“Because this isn’t over. One day, fate’s going to fix this. Bring us back together. I believe that.”

This book had a delicious dose of angst that kept those pages frantically turning as I voraciously lapped up every word, I couldn’t put this book down and didn’t want to. These characters wheedled their way into my heart and didn’t let go and I desperately wanted all of them to get the happy every after that they all so richly deserved. While Angel, Liam’s fiancée was a character I should have hated, like Elissa, I couldn’t. She was such a fun character and one that really added to this story. Josh was the best friend that everyone wants, his attitude and sense of humour really lightened this story and his loyalty to Elissa was extremely heart-warming.

“Fuck you and lobsters everywhere, Phoebe. Fuck…you.”

The angst was off the charts, the pace was fast and all consuming, the chemistry was palpable. There was humour and laughs and heart wrenching emotional tears, Leisa Rayven manage to evoke them all out of me with ease. I loved everything about this book. So why not a shiny five? For me the ending felt rushed and I would have loved to have spent more time with them after all the drama, a glimpse at what their lives would have been like without all the trials and tribulations they had gone through, while we got a glimpse, for me it wasn’t enough and that is testament to Leisa Rayven’s talent at embedding her characters into your heart. You just want more.

“I’ve missed you, Liss. It hurt not seeing you for all those years, but this? You being right here and me not being able to have you? Hurts so much more.”

This was second chance romance at its best, enough angst to feed a book club for years and enough heat to warrant keeping the fire brigade on standby. Leisa Rayven nailed this one, totally loved it.

“Thank you for being my lobster.”
