Review ~ Beauty and the Blitz by Sosie Frost

Book Description:

Shatter the slipper. Spit out the apple. Fall for The Beast.

All-star linebacker Cole Hawthorne is a beast on the field, destroying offenses one broken quarterback at a time. Though he’s a gifted athlete, his violent reputation makes him a liability to his team and a villain in the league.

As Cole’s agent, it’s my responsibility to convince the brooding loner that being traded is better than getting banished from the game. If he loses his contract, this single mom is out of a job.

So, it’s up to me to tame the beast.

But the closer I get to the ferocious monster, the harder I fall for the passionate man underneath. He’s crude and charming. Tough and sweet. Dangerous…but even he can’t resist my baby’s giggle.

Denying my feelings might protect my heart, but the trading deadline is closing in. When Cole reveals the dirty truth about the trade, I can’t let the league rip us apart.

Do I save my career…or do I protect a man who deserves a happily ever after?

Maybe no one can love a beast…
But they haven’t met Cole Hawthorne.

“I can’t promise you a happily ever after…fuck, I’m still working on this once upon a time.”

All you ladies…protect your ovaries because if you pick up this book they are more than likely to combust. Swoon, swoon and more swoon. There is nothing more heart melting than a man and a kid, especially when said man is 6ft 6, built like a tank and doesn’t believe he is worthy of love let alone the love of a child. While this kid wasn’t his, the way he welcomed her into his life was nothing short of amazing and the change in him as a person was a beauty to read about.

“Christ. Three days ago I broke a man’s back. In what universe did Piper think it was a good idea to bring a baby to me? I couldn’t be trusted around anything that required a soft touch. My body…wasn’t capable of gentleness.”

This book is hilarious too, I had tears of laughter throughout, mainly at the hands of said man trying to adapt to child proofing and just having a kid around in general. Sosie Frost really hits the nail on the head throughout this book and her sense of humour came across fantastically in her writing. It truly was hysterical, any mum will be able to relate and even if you are not I am sure that you will find this book highly entertaining. But, and this is a huge BUT, this was so much more than just a laugh out loud book, this was a book that had one of the cutest and most beautiful love stories I have read in a long time.

“…but who the fuck were they protecting when they turned the appliance into some Acme-grade Wile E. Coyote deadfall trap? Great. The baby was safe, but the linebacker was nearly a pancake. The house wasn’t baby-proofed. It was booby-trapped.”

Piper Madison was a single mum who had become a statistic through one mistake. Having to forego her college life was a small price to the pay for the love of her daughter and Rose was one mistake that she would never regret. Piper was now working for her father at his sports agency, usually as a gopher but it made enough money to keep a roof over their heads…just, however, her father needed her to do a job that had the potential to promote her but failure was not an option, if she failed, she was fired. Piper’s mission was to get Cole Hawthorne, the dirtiest player in the league to agree to a trade, a trade he didn’t want.

Cole Hawthorne was “The Beast,” he was 6ft 6 of pure muscle, was highly motivated, tunnel visioned for victory and took no prisoners. He really was a beast on the field and was highly feared by all his opponents. While there was never any malice behind his actions, sometimes just the pure force and the adrenaline behind one of his tackles knocks a man for six, causes injuries and the powers that be wanted him out of the league. He was perceived as “dirty” when in fact he was just highly motivated and focused. Football was everything to Cole, he lived and breathed it but more importantly, everything to do with football was his outlet. An outlet for all his issues especially his anger. He would work himself to the point of exhaustion just to be able sleep and he was a loner, he kept himself to himself. But underneath that hard, brash, unapproachable exterior was a man with a heart of gold who had the propensity to love like no other. Cole just needed to believe it so that he could find it. When Piper Madison knocks on his door, Cole Hawthorne may have just met his match…nothing more determined than a mama bear protecting her young.

“Linemen feared me. Running backs avoided me. Receivers hated me. And quarterbacks? I scattered those pretty boys over the goddamned field. I was stronger than them. Faster than them. I knew the plays they’d call, and I loved when they pissed their pants as they read my blitz.”

Piper was seemingly on “mission impossible,” Cole was as stubborn as hell and erected every single wall he had to keep her out as well as her stupid ideas and recommendations. Cole had his reasons but he keeps everything to himself and doesn’t let anyone in. Piper, however, was persistent and slowly but surely her tenacity was getting to Cole, they both begin to open up and when babysitter problems introduce Rose into the mix all bets are off.

The change in Cole was seriously breath taking, for a man so jaded and a man who actually hated himself and what he perceived he had become, to see the change in him as Piper and Rose seamlessly embed themselves into his daily life was truly heart-warming. Cole needed to believe in himself and more importantly believe that he was worthy of love in all shapes and forms. Having never had it, he never knew what he was missing until it hit him in the shape of Piper and Rose.

“The world encouraged me to become The Beast until they realized they’d created a monster. And monsters didn’t get to make love.”

I swooned a lot, I wanted to jump into the kindle and give Cole the biggest hugs, he was a beautiful man on the inside and out and just needed his eyes and heart opened to realise it. Sosie Frost captured this perfectly and as this man transforms before your very eyes you cannot help but champion him on. Piper was exactly what Cole needed, she didn’t take his crap, she called him out, but she always had his best interests at heart. These two made a fantastic team.

“I want to fuck you until you beg for mercy…and I want to pleasure you until you beg for more.”

I loved everything about this book, I ran the gamut of emotions, I laughed and I cried, I felt everything. I lived their lives for the duration, I was a voyeur looking in and I didn’t want to leave. The sex scenes were intense, emotional and seriously hot, every feeling was conveyed perfectly through words and really added that extra layer of character connection.

“I don’t see any beast here.”
“No?”
“I only see the man I love.”

I will warn you that when you download this book there are an extra two books included, two full sized novels, so on the kindle this book finished at about 34%. I was gutted…I thought this was one really long book and I had a lot of time left with them. Beautiful story, hilarious too, I just loved it.
