Review ~ Sexual Awakenings (Sexual Awakenings 1-4) by Kate Stewart

Book Description:

MadHatter: Why so blue Alice?

Blue_Alice: I want to explore a part of me I’ve kept hidden.

MadHatter: Why?

Blue_Alice: Because I don’t have anything to lose.

MadHatter: That’s dangerous.

Violet
After sacrificing years of my life on a cheating husband, I’d had enough. I set out to quench a thirst I had ignored for years. I gave myself one year to explore my sexuality—to delve into my deepest, darkest desires. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, I would have my sexual revolution. I would have my…awakening.
Diving into the world of both pleasure and pain, I was sure with Rhys I had found what I’d been missing…until he took it away.
_________

Rhys
I was on my way out of the life when she came barging in with her new appetite and unrealistic expectations of what a Dom should be. All I had left to do to break free was sell the club and walk away. Now I found I had something to walk toward. And for the first time in my life, I hoped I’d be enough for a woman.
Caring for a woman was easy for me. I had always cared for different women for different reasons. Loving a woman had always been quite a bit harder.

Doms don’t have to say I love you.

“Can’t start a relationship based on a lie…”

Sexual Awakenings was originally penned under Kate Stewarts pen name Angelica Chase, a pen name that the author used for her “erotic” stories. This is definitely a different side to Kate Stewart and I must say…I LOVED IT A LOT!!

Violet Harvell-Hale is an extremely bored housewife and part time realtor. Her husband has been playing away for years and she has had to endure listening to his late-night proclamations of love to his many lovers every night for years. Tired of being the doormat and being ignored, Violet decides that what is good for the goose is good for the gander and it is finally time to ask for that divorce and for her to begin a voyage of sexual self-discovery, a side to her sexual nature that has never been quenched, never been explored only in her imagination and through her beloved books.

“This wasn’t the end. It was just the beginning.”

Rhys Volz is the owner of a sex club and when he sees the newest wannabe member his curiosity is instantly piqued. Rhys is a man who hasn’t participated in “the scene” for quite a while, but just seeing Violet has him wanting to come out of retirement. I adored Rhys, Kate Stewart really delivered a well-rounded hero, one that plays his cards extremely close to his chest for very good reason. Rhys is an enigma at first, he is incredibly intriguing, mysterious and commanding and no woman who has a beating heart would be immune to his charms. Rhys is charismatic, yet sincere and it is this emotional side to him that really enabled that character connection that I desperately crave.

“And for the first time in my life, I hoped I’d be enough for a woman. I started out her master, but I had already become her slave.”

Violet was a fantastic heroine, albeit I wanted to slap her for putting up with her husband’s shenanigans for so long. Violet’s husband has battered her self-confidence and self-esteem and the broken Violet is in desperate need to feel wanted, to feel loved and she craves that human, emotional interaction more than anything. This is Violet’s journey to “Sexual Awakening” and what a journey it was.

“Get your head out of your ass, Violet. Stop worrying about the man who left you and start paying attention to the man who loves you.”

This book is insanely hot, the chemistry between Rhys and Violet is powerful and all-consuming and you cannot help but be dragged wantonly into their story. The sex scenes are intense, yet emotional and it is this that shows the reader how invested these two are in each other, not just as sex club members. Both characters lack the propensity to trust and while they explicitly trust each other with their bodies, their hearts and minds are not so easily handed over. It is this journey that really made this book for me. Two broken souls, both hurt and both determined not to put themselves in that situation again. This was more than just erotica and I am glad that the trademark Kate Stewart was ever present despite her Angelica Chase alter-ego.

“…whatever he practiced on you, I can assure you he perfected on me.”

I loved the revelations throughout this book, this was so much more than what I initially thought it would be about. This story has meat and bones, not just gratuitous sex and while that side was more than welcome it wasn’t the core. Kate Stewart has once again blown me away and I cannot wait to read more from her sexy, filthy side.
