Release Day Blitz, Review, Excerpt & Giveaway ~ Thursday Afternoon by Beth Rinyu

Thursday Afternoon is LIVE!!!

Book Description:

I'm just your typical working girl who never mixes business with pleasure. Although some may say my business is all about pleasure. For the past four years, I’ve allowed my profession to define me, distancing myself from family, friends and most of all love. Hating the reflection I see staring back at me in the mirror, I muddle through each day with my heart sealed off like a tomb, until two strangers enter my life.

One teaching me the true meaning of friendship.

The other teaching me the true meaning of love.

She’s everything I’m not.

Humble, loving, and devoting her life to others.

We’re an unlikely duo who are polar opposites, but at the same time so alike.

Never in a million years could I be friends with someone like her...until I was.

Then there’s him.

He’s my Thursday afternoon client.

Just like all the others: handsome, rich and charming…yet so very different.

Trying to overcome a painful past, he seeks out my services as a refuge, only to find that we’re opening our hearts to each other in ways that neither of us could've imagined.

I could never fall in love with someone like him...until I did.

And now I'm finding myself longing for it to be Thursday afternoon all week long.

Reviewed by Donna ~ 4.5 stars

“I was fully aware that I was breaking all of my rules, but there was just something different about Thursday Afternoon that had me powerless to stop myself.”

What is it with authors and their incessant ability to make my eyes leak? Seriously though, I love my emotional reads, I thrive on them and they are my favourite kind, I love a good weep with the next person and this one was just perfect. The tears for these characters were born from pure emotion all the while enveloped with one of the most heart-warming love stories. I adored everything about this book. The character connection was on point, the characters, while not perfect were perfect in their own way. This was a romance within a romance, a story of one of the most unlikeliest of friendships, but one of a story where true friends come in who and when you least expect it. I adored everything about it.

“In a matter of seconds the switch had been flipped. Hesitation turned to desire, reservation to eagerness, and regret to contentment. The rain had ended, and that fire I had been trying to ignite all afternoon was finally set ablaze. And as he began to explore every inch of my body, I knew nothing would put it out now.”

Beth Rinyu has a way of taking my breath away with her honest romances, her stories sweep me away and her characters embed themselves into my heart and soul and Bree and Simon did just that. Beth Rinyu’s character connection is always on point and she gives great depth to help the reader form that bond for the journey that she is about to take you on. This was a book I read in one sitting and I couldn’t put it down. The epilogue was fantastic and just put the cherry on top of an already mouth-watering dessert.

Bree was a woman that found herself on hard times when her life fell apart around her. Once upon a time she was a ballerina for the New York ballet until one accident took everything she loved away from her. While her choices were not the best, she did what she had to do to stay in the city she had come to love, her past was full of memories and a place she didn’t want to visit. Putting your faith in the one person who had always been there for you took Bree down the path she found herself on, but it only took a few appointments with her Thursday Afternoon to see that maybe, just maybe there was more to her than she ever thought possible.

“There’s a lovely fresh blanket of snow in your life, and you and only you are in control of who you allow to make those first footprints in it.”

Simon was Mr Thursday Afternoon, a man that had lived through his own tragedy and was struggling to come out the other side. While meeting Bree in these circumstances would never be considered his finest hour, he did what he had to do to protect himself and those he loved. Simon was a man starved of affection and a woman’s touch, he needed companionship and he never thought he would find that from an escort.

“If this was the danger zone and Simon was the enemy, I wasn’t fighting it. He had already captured my body one hundred percent, and each time I was with him, he was taking a little piece of my heart.”

From the first to last word my attention was held throughout as Bree made a friend she never knew she needed and fell in love with someone she never knew she wanted. Both journeys were pivotal lessons for Bree and made her finally broach her past while reconsidering her future. Hannah was an amazing character, one that blindsided me, but one that I adored. Her outlook on life added a different dimension to this story and one that only added colour.

“So yeah, I do compare the two of you, just not in the way you think, and I wonder every day why I couldn’t have met you first.”

Every character had a pivotal part to play, each one different but with so much purpose. Simon was the perfect gentleman, his honesty, his integrity and his inherent ability to see beyond the façade and to get to know the true person underneath. He knew when to tread lightly, he knew when to push, he was a man dealing with his own issues and yet still made room for others. Bree was so cold in the first instance but with each layer Beth Rinyu skilfully peeled away you got to truly understand the woman underneath…troubled and tortured yet inherently selfless with an amazing heart. Sometimes love comes when you least expect, sometimes life puts you through the wringer to make you stronger, but fate works in mysterious ways and perhaps it was just preparing these two for their end destination…each other. Totally and utterly loved it.

“Because if none of this had happened, including your past that you’re trying to forget…I would have never met you.”

Excerpt:

“You’re my new-fallen snow, Simon.”

He stared down at me in confusion.

My thumbs skimmed the sides of his face, with the glow of the moon providing just enough light to make out his perfect features. “Each new-fallen snow is a second chance to get it right. Thank you for giving me the chance to prove not only to you, but to myself that I’m more than who I once was.”

“You’re so much more.” His voice was low and hoarse. “God, I didn’t think it was possible to want you any more than I already did, but you never cease to amaze me.”

Book Description:

He had a right to remain suffocated by his pain.
She had a right to remain silent about hers.

For better or for worse.
Those were the vows that I had taken with my wife six years ago. We had lived through the better and were barely getting through the worse. I tried to face our loss together, while she chose to have an affair instead.
Time apart was what we both needed.
What I didn’t expect in that time was her.
The beauty she possessed on the outside was a far cry from the scars she was harboring on the inside. She wasn’t looking for love and neither was I. She just needed someone to help her deal with the pain she had been carrying around for the past two years, and I was happy to oblige.
I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with her, but suddenly I was seeing a future that I never dreamed of right in front of my eyes….only to find that the past had other things in mind for us.
***
I always believed that we only got one true love in life, and mine was gone and never coming back.
Through the tear-filled nights and never ending days, I was slowly and tortuously coming to terms with the pain that was my reality.
And then he entered my life.
Tall, handsome, genuine and caring, he was a friend when I needed one most. Together, we were a temporary fix to our own permanent pain. Just two people helping each other to get through a very dark period in life.
But when the light begins to shine ever so slightly with each passing day, and his face is all I can see at the end of that tunnel…..do I run back into the darkness or move into the light with him?

About the Author:

Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed Creative Writing. There was always something about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen - or in today's world a touch of the keyboard.

My life is not as interesting as my books or the characters in them, but then again whose life is? I'm a mom of twin teenage boys, a crazy Border Collie and a cat with an identity crisis! I guess you can say writing is my form of Calgon!

Thanks for taking the time to learn about my books and me! If you decide to read them (and I hope you do!) please be sure to go on and review it for me - yes, even if you don't like it!
