Blog Tour ~ Review, Teaser & Giveaway ~ Behind His Eyes Convicted: THE MISSING YEARS by Aleatha Romig

Book Description:

THE MISSING YEARS is the final piece to Aleatha Romig’s CONSEQUENCES SERIES puzzle. Follow the twists and turns as secrets are revealed, consequences are delivered, and the future is shown.

In CONVICTED we saw what happened that fateful afternoon at the Rawlings Estate. Now experience the shocking repercussions firsthand. More than a companion, this full-length novel fills in the gap of time that was only mentioned, beginning when Claire Nichols forgets and seen through the eyes of collective men (the HIS is plural).

In THE MISSING YEARS, readers will see Anthony Rawlings fight for what belongs to him and cope with the reality of his past. Watch as Harrison Baldwin discovers the truth that threatens his beliefs, and as John Vandersol comes to terms with his revelations. Witness Phillip Roach, as he decides with whom his loyalties lay, and Brent Simmons, as he demonstrates the meaning of friendship—no matter the cost.

As the pieces of the puzzle fall into place, BEHIND HIS EYES CONVICTED goes beyond. This final installment of the series offers a glimpse into the future of the lives that will forever be changed because there was a man who...

Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul.

“Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule – he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul. – Aleatha Romig, CONVICTED”

After a bit of a slow burn in the beginning, this book certainly picks up in pace and delivers continuously until the very last word.

This is by no means Convicted from Tony’s POV, this is so much MORE! If you thought you already knew Tony, you are mistaken, it is not until after you read this instalment that you will finally get to meet and understand the REAL Tony. This book was so enlightening, not only regarding Tony but also all the men involved in this series as we are treated to POV gems from Harry, Phil, John and Brent.

The part that I always thought was missing from Convicted was details of Tony’s incarceration and the trial of Catherine. This is covered in depth in this instalment. It is in fact Tony’s incarceration chapters that are the most enlightening of all. Up until this point Tony had never read Claire’s memoir book that Meredith published, part of his “time” is seeing a therapist and the therapist makes him read them. His reaction and thought processes during this extremely difficult time are at times unsettling but they are a much needed process that he needed to go through to finally realise exactly what he put Claire through and why, it is during this process that we finally get to witness the rebirth of Anthony Rawlings, his metamorphosis was beautiful to watch and finally I understood and could justify why I turned my hatred for Tony to love. I always thought I was some deranged person for loving Tony at the end but we get to see just how much power Catherine had over him, he was in fact broken himself and Catherine manipulated his weaknesses, it is finally when his eyes are opened to her depravity and the love that he is receiving from Claire that he finally sees the light.

“I suppose I should start in the beginning – March 2010. No, that wasn’t when I was born. It was when I began to live. Most people think I’m crazy – maybe I am. You see I began to live the day my life was taken away. Funny, I don’t remember how it happened. I do know now, it never could’ve been stopped.

Anthony Rawlings wanted me. If I’ve learned one lesson in my life – and believe me, I’ve learned many – Anthony Rawlings always got what he wanted. – Claire Rawlings”

Once again this book brought back the memories of Emily and John’s misguided attempts to keep Claire and Nichol “safe” from Tony. While this goes someway to explaining their thought processes it did not make it any easier to read. One thing that did come as a surprise was the mellowing of John towards Tony and how early it started, there is one pivotal moment in this book with regards to their relationship where Tony writes him a letter, I was extremely touched reading this and it just went to show how far Tony had evolved and even though prison was preventing him from doing what he wanted he realised who exactly were the best people to do so in his absence.

We also get to see Tony’s thought processes behind the controversial “divorce” scene towards the end of Convicted. Finally, I could see where Tony was coming from, even though I still cried!! It was part of his internal therapy that he needed to ensure that Claire was with him for all the right reasons, it had to be her decision, he wanted to be wanted for who he was, not what he had done.

“His chest ached with pride and love, sadness and regret. It was the promise of a future swirling in a whirlwind of remorse.”

There are still some shocking things revealed in this book, I thought that all of those were out the way during this series, but no, Aleatha still had a few cards up her sleeve and these were definitely dealt with the shock factor!! Bombshells…I thought Aleatha couldn’t surprise me anymore, but be prepared for more!!

The best part of this series apart from prison and the trial was most definitely the epilogue, to finally see what happened to all of them after was a joy to read and did give some closure on all these characters that we love to read about.

In summary, this book finally uncomplicates a complicated series, the layers are peeled back and we are finally treated to the bare bones underneath. Being in Tony’s head throughout these “Behind His Eyes” has not only been eye opening but has gone quite a way in explaining some of Tony’s behaviour. While he will in no way ever be exonerated for his actions in the beginning and this I will never forgive him for, I could somehow understand how and why he did it. If you were still unsure about your feelings towards him I am sure that this instalment will go quite a way in changing your opinion. It also shows how Tony changed over a period of years, because Convicted never went into these details and it seemed he literally changed overnight; I found it hard to believe. In this instalment we are finally able to witness his transition over a much longer period of time, it made Convicted more understandable and much more believable.
