That's the only memory he carries from a childhood he does not remember. And now it is all he knows. Blood is his life.

So he goes where he is needed and does what he is told. He tortures. He kills. He kills. He tortures. It is an unrelenting cycle that he constantly craves and can never quite satisfy.

Until her.

Review ~ Unhinged (Unhinged #1) by Timberlyn Scott

Reviewed by Willow ~ 3.5 - 4 Stars

"Whoever he was, there was something about him....
Something that Unhinged me."

I picked this book up because I had heard that it was actually a book by Nicole Edwards just written under a different name. The reason for this is because Nicole did not want her fans to think that it was going to be a traditional Nicole Edwards book which sit firmly in the erotica category. This book is completely different, it was much more of a sweet romance.

The book starts with Peyton having a dream about a guy, but not knowing who he is, although she's had the dream before. All she knows is she doesn't want it to end. But alas, she has to get up to go to the new job she has just started.

The new job is working for Mr Conrad Trovato, CEO of Trovato inc, a high end car/ engine designer. Wait, I know what you're thinking - nope this isn't one of those books! Payton is sent to Mr Trovato's house one day on an errand. There she literally meets the guy of her dreams.

"Holy crap.
He was the guy from my dream. The dream I'd had for the last couple of weeks. He was the guy I couldn't look away from, the one I would try to call back just before I would awaken abruptly"

He introduces himself as Sebastian and Payton assumes that he is Mr Trovato's mechanic.

The book is told from dual POV, so we get inside Sebastian's head too. He has also had a dream a about a girl who unhinged him, and yep you've guessed it, it's Payton.

Sebastian is not who Payton thinks he is though, he has a secret.

I really did enjoy reading this book, it was an easy read, the words flowed well and it kept me engaged. It was funny in parts and Sebastian is HOT! As the story progress' Sebastian emerges as having a bit of a bad boy persona. Did I also mention he has Tats and piercings? Hell yes, he's definitely hot! He's also told to stay away from Payton, but he can't get her out of his head either and so definitely breaks that rule!

"There was only one problem. She unhinged me. And I wasn't strong enough to resist her."

The book is a really short read though at only 184 or so pages and I was disappointed to find just as I was really immersed in the book it ended. On top of that it ends on a massive cliffhanger. Sebastian is just about to tell Payton a huge secret, not the one we as readers know already of who he really is, but a new secret and although you kind of get the gist of what he's about to say, it is shocking and you don't know the how, why or what Payton's reaction will be. So the book definitely leaves you wanting more, but I'll admit I found this hugely frustrating. Luckily the second book in the series is now out.

In summary, overall this was a good book that had me laughing in places and definitely lusting after Sebastian. The secrets he held added mystery to the book and kept it engaging. Although I said this is a sweeter Romance, there were still a couple of hot scenes that left you wanting more, just don't expect Nicole Edwards hot. Although there is the element of them both dreaming about the other before they met, this is not a paranormal book in any way. The disappointment for me came in the shortness of the book and it feeling like it ended just as it started to get going. That said it is a reasonably priced book and with the next one already out, It is worth having a read. I've started book two Unraveling and my review of that will be up shortly.

The Hook Up (Game On #1) by Kristen Callihan

Reviewed by Donna ~ 4.5 Stars

I’m not going to say it was love at first sight. No, it was more like oh, hell-yes-please, I’ll have that. With a helping of right-the-f**k-now on the side.

I must admit, I have been in a bad place this week; it has to go down in history as one of the worst weeks ever!! My reading mojo took a battering too and I just couldn’t get motivated to read and that is unheard of. So, I picked up The Hook Up, it has been sitting pretty looking at me since release day and my reading diary just hadn’t given me the time to get there yet and my hands have itched to read this. I have stayed away from reviews and Goodreads because I didn’t want this one to be spoiled. So I dove in!

This book can be summed up in two words DREW BAYLOR; I fell hook, line and sinker. Drew is the star quarter back for his college football team, also co-captain. With this title come responsibilities and a reputation. It is easy to lump all jocks in the “meat head, player” category but Drew was different, so so different. He gave off that air of “jock” but deep down he was just Drew Baylor and all he wanted was for someone to see him, just Drew, not Battleaxe or Drew Baylor the football player, just little old Drew. I loved Drew Baylor!!

“I think you’re beautiful,” he says softly. “Beauty fades,” I choke out. “Not when it comes from inside.”

Anna Jones, I could have seriously head butted her at times but I could understand her insecurities, I have been there, done that, got the T-shirt and not wore it well at all. She is studious, curvy and a red-head, but her curves are in all the right places, she is all woman. However, we all know how school can be and how cruel girls are and Anna did not escape high school unscathed. She has a serious complex, as far as she is concerned, she is not pretty and she is too fat. No boy has ever shown an interest in her romantically and her expectations are not that high anyway as her mum is hardly the poster girl for having happy, loving relationships, so Anna has sworn off men.

Anna and Drew meet in class, it becomes immediately obvious that Drew is interested but Anna is wary, just waiting for some prankster to come out and say “really!! You seriously think he would be interested in you!!” But the truth be told, Drew has it bad, having never had to work to get the girl, Drew is baffled, but he listens to sound advice he received years ago and goes after what he wants and what he wants is Anna Jones. She doesn’t make it easy either, which in the book world is unusual, she plays hard to get and the friendship that develops between these two makes for fantastic reading. Intelligent conversation along with the banter makes for a funny, interesting read.

“MY MOTHER ONCE told me that the most important moment in my life wouldn’t be when I won the National Championship or even the Super Bowl. It would be when I fell in love. Life, she insisted, is how you live it and who you live it with, not what you do to make a living.”

I loved the banter between these two; they batted off each other and complimented each other beautifully. They brought out the best in each other; they literally shone in each other’s company. As much as Anna annoyed me a times, I really felt for her, I wanted her to realise just how beautiful she was inside and out and was glad that Drew made it his mission to make her see what he sees. Drew was another complex character, seemingly having it all, but nothing could have been further from the truth. He never opened up to anyone…until Anna Jones. He bared himself, warts and all to Anna, he wanted her to see just how much she meant to him and it was this endearing side that made you love him all the more.

“I’ve just experienced the hottest, most erotic, life-changing sex of my life, and I don’t think I’m going to get a repeat. Tonight was obviously an ill-advised hook up for her. And I’m so screwed because it was the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

The dual POV’s really aided this read, I felt conflicted reading Anna’s POV’s, I wanted to hug her and smother her, I wanted to give her a kick up the back side too but most of all I just wanted her to believe in herself. She was by no means timid and shy, she had inner-strength and was a ballsy character when she wanted to be, but those insecurities were always festering under the surface and occasionally they would erupt, sometimes with devastating consequences.

“You’ve destroyed me, Anna Jones.” I know exactly what he means, because he’s destroyed me too.

Drew’s POV’s were enlightening, through these we saw his soft side, we also really got to understand just how strong and deep his feelings were and when he hurt I hurt. I must admit, I did shed tears, whether it was because I have been an emotional mess this week I don’t know, but this book got to me in places.

“You shine so brightly, Drew. And it’s beautiful to me, but I didn’t know how to live under your light.” He frowns, his expression growing fierce. But his words are low, strong. “What people see? That is only gloss. But, Anna, you light me up. Drew. Not the player. You didn’t know how to live under my light? I don’t have a light anymore unless you’re there.”

In summary, this was a fantastic read, I totally loved it, loved the characters and I love Gray too! I can’t wait for his book. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down. Perfectly written with a balanced blend of emotion, angst and humour and as you can tell I highlighted the hell out of it. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

“My world lives in your palm, Anna.”

Friday Frights ~ PNR Reviews ~ (Serial) Life Blood: Cora's Choice (Aethereal Bonds) by V.M. Black

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 4.5 Stars

This is a brilliant series. I am reviewing book one to hopefully get you interested to read them all.

This story is where Cora first comes into contact with the handsome, enigmatic Mr Thorne. Cora is suffering from the life threatening illness of Leukaemia and has just been told by her doctor, Dr Robeson that the treatment she was on had failed and that she only had about 5 months to live. Being only 21 this was devastating news. Cora had had her life mapped out. Graduation and then onto University. Her doctor, seeing how badly affected she was offered her another choice. It was a bit unorthodox but it could be her only chance and gives Cora a card with just a phone number on it.

Overwhelmed she slowly made her way back to college dreading having to tell the news to her roommate Lisette, who had looked after her all through this. Trying to be upbeat in front of her friend but failing miserably she thought it out and made the decision and rang the number and that was when she first meets Mr Thorne, who was nothing like what Cora was expecting. He explained about his procedure also telling her only one in a hundred survives. Not great odds but with death facing her she agreed to allow him to take blood from her to see if she was ok for the treatment. But when he touched her Cora couldn't get over how turned on she got and when she looked at him she couldn't help noticing that wasn't unaffected either. Strange.

When leaving the building all she could think of was HIM.

Her results finally came through and was told it was a go.

The next meeting she had with Mr Thorne was held at a restaurant which Cora thought strange but she went and as soon as she was in his company so the feelings started again being totally drawn to the man. He affected her like no other man she knows.

His hooded eyes burned with intensity. His eyes and cheeks were even more hollow now, I noticed, but they simply put a hard edge on his handsomeness.

"Because I want you to say yes too badly. And sitting across from me, you will refuse me nothing that I want."

And then he told Cora to do something and she found herself doing exactly what he told her to do.

"What are you?" I demanded.

"Something more dangerous than you can imagine." he said, and I believed him. Oh, how I believed him.

But that strong attraction she felt for him was still there. The rest of the evening went in a blur.

He gave her two weeks to make her mind up, and feeling like she did during those two weeks it was easy to make her decision and so she made the fateful phone call which changed Cora' life forever.

As I said in the beginning of this review blinding book and series. Ms Black a resounding hit in my mind.

Excerpt:

Prepare. In nine hours I blow your mind with surprises.
Surprises, hmmm. He left all sorts of surprises in my apartment last night as well. Boxes and boxes of gifts, and the new bedsheets and comforter did not escape me either. It mightve been my best night of sleep ever. Im just not sure if its because I was fucked unconscious, because of the new bedding, or because living a fantasy is exhausting. But either way, dragging my butt up out of bed was difficult.
I text back, I cant help it.
Youre #OnMyMind, is that good or bad?
I press send and then immediately wish I could take it back. I should not discuss my feelings with him. Hes made it very clear were just fucking, and the fact that Im having feelings is going to put an end to this as soon as he figures it out. In fact he might be debating that right now. Should I cancel our tweet date? hes probably wondering. Is she getting clingy already?
Way to go, Grace.
My phone buzzes and I look down.
Im smiling, Grace. You made me smile.
Whats that mean?
And then my phone dings a noise Ive never heard before and an alert comes through.
FaceTime, Accept?
I didnt even know I had FaceTime. I press accept and a view of Los Angeles appears. "Are you alone?" Vaughn asks.
"Yes," I giggle back.
His face comes into view and he grins at me. "You look nice today. What are you up to?"
I bite my lip and look around. Im fucking FaceTiming with Vaughn Asher in public. "Um…" And then I spot Kristi coming out of the bathroom. "Im looking at flowers with a client. And shes coming back from the restroom, so I cant really talk."
"Mmmmm," he says back. "I want to fuck you right now."
"Shhh," I say, looking around to make sure no one can hear him.
"Tweet me something special when you ditch the friend." And then the screen goes black and cycles back to home.

Review ~ Unforgiven (Unbreakable #3) by Rebecca Shea

Reviewed by Donna ~ 4.5 stars!!

“The most important lesson I’ve learned is that forgiveness is a beautiful gift to give, but an even more beautiful gift to receive.”

I honestly don’t know where to start reviewing this one…hmmm what can I say? Well, this book is about Lindsay and Matt, there was a hint about a blossoming romance between these two in Undone, but you were never sure. Lindsay is Landon’s sister and Matt is Landon’s partner in the police force. These two are the only people that Landon trusts and loves. It is because of this love and trust issue that Lindsay wants to keep their relationship to themselves, Landon is finally in a happy place and Lindsay does not want to rock the boat, however this secret turns out the be the worst keep secret in the history of secrets and in fact Landon could not be happier for them.

This book starts with Lindsay and Matt being blissfully happy despite them keeping everything hush hush. Lindsay is a TV reporter and her career is on the up and up and as we know Matt is in the police force. Their love for each other is obvious, they have been together for quite a while and both are totally smitten. Work seems to be coming between them though, with Lindsay’s insane hours and Matt’s shift pattern. Lindsay is extremely career minded; she wants to be the best of the best and is putting in all the hours that she can to promote herself forward. She is extremely driven and is very good at what she does, it doesn’t take long for her agent to get the “dream job” that she has always been aspiring to.

This is where it all goes a bit crazy and Rebecca Shea literally rips your heart out, smashes it to smithereens, and stomps on it for good measure until you are a mush and feeling extremely lifeless. I must say I did read this while zonked out on cold and flu meds so was feeling extremely under the weather, but I seriously balled my eyes out, but I found this book to be extremely emotional. It really did tug at my heart strings both for Lindsay and for Matt.

Lindsay makes the decision to take this job and this means that she will be hours and hours and hours away from Matt, it is not so much how Lindsay made the decision, but how quick. She made it in a few seconds flat seemingly giving no credence to her relationship with Matt, she literally dismisses him. Matt’s heart break was extremely evident, he wears his heart on his sleeve and I cried for him. He literally was destroyed.

“Today I'm fully aware of what it feels like to be dead - not physically dead, but emotionally. Emotionally, I'm a dead man. She was everything to me - everything.”

And

“You love me? You love me so much you made what should have been the hardest decision of your life in fifteen seconds.”

Lindsay soon finds out that her dream job is not all what it is cracked up to be and is soon regretting her decisions and making some incredibly stupid mistakes. It is here I will stop, you have the bones, and I will leave you to read the meat. This story is incredibly moving, at times distressing and incredibly emotional. We continue to catch up with Landon and Reagan and they do still appear heavily and we are also treated to snippets from Jessica and Gabe, who were in book 1, Unbreakable.

This book does cover some tough topics and these we all handled brilliantly and sympathetically, I felt for Lindsay throughout and her journey of self-destruction and re-generation was certainly a roller coaster ride of emotions. Although our Lindsay always seemed to be the strong one from the outside, internally she was full of self-doubt. Both hers and Landon’s past seemingly leaving an indelible mark. But despite all the emotional, this book is smattered with humour and the snippet below had me howling with laughter and may have even had a few tears too with the belly laugh that resulted!

“Well, the skank look isn’t working for you, sweetheart. So tuck those tits back into that blouse and lay off the black eye liner. There is a difference between smoky eye and Goth. We want to attract viewers, not f**king scare them.”

All in all this was a great follow up and a great way to end this series. All three couples have been a pleasure to read about even if their stories at times have been heart-breaking!
