Review ~ MILF: Wrong Kind of Love by Erin Noelle

“FALLING IN LOVE IS QUITE POSSIBLY the strangest, most senseless, overwhelmingly reckless act we as humans do in our lives. It happens so effortlessly, so naturally, that most of the time we don’t mean for it to happen, but once we realize it for what it is, it’s too late to be undone.”

While the title is entirely descriptive of the content of this book I have seen many comments that people have been put off by the name, please do not be put off, as the old saying goes, never judge a book by its cover and that also goes for the title too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I love reading about women in particular around my own age and this book ticked that box. This book was funny yet hot, emotional, sensitive, engrossing and un-put-down-able.

“If nothing lasts forever, mi cielo, please say you'll be my nothing.”

Mia was in her late thirties and became a wife and mom at a young age; she was a devoted wife who had given up everything for her husband. After 20 years of devotion and a night of passion her husband delivers the ultimate blow, he wants a divorce and admits that he has been cheating on her for the past two years, with none other than her friend. Mia could have capitulated at this point, but after the mourning and the self-loathing and grieving process that she goes through, she picks herself up and dusts herself off and throws herself into her art, something that she loves to do, yet her husband would never support. Mia is devoted to her son Adam and loves him unconditionally, but at twenty one he has his own life to lead and is not dependant on Mia anymore. Between art and Adam her life is semi complete, now she just needs to start living again.

Adam’s best friend is also his Dad’s future wife’s son…are you still with me? Grayson has been part of Adam’s life for a long time so knows Mia well. Grayson has been away for a year studying abroad and since Mia has been keeping fit and has had a makeover he cannot believe the new Mia and this is how Mia becomes a MILF.

“…because I’m actually standing here contemplating seducing the MILF I’m currently living with.”

I will point out that Grayson is in his early twenties, so there is nothing gross contained in this story at all. In fact as I was reading this book, to me it was more of a reawakening, a rebirth for both Grayson and Mia. Never once did I feel that this relationship was icky, I felt their connection, I felt the love that they had for each other and I was championing them all the way. Mia had been repressed during her marriage and it was beautiful to watch her open her wings and fly. Grayson was always a bit of a jack the lad but Mia was the anchor that he needed, he was a bit of a floater and he needed that stability and she gave it lovingly and completely. They were truly beautiful together. As much as their love was all encompassing they both knew deep down that a lot of people would have a problem with it.

“God, I’m so fucked.”

Together their life was perfect but now was time to “come out” and face the music. There are a lot of people that have their opinions about Mia and Grayson’s relationship, but to them the only one that mattered was Adam and they always knew that he would be the hardest to win over. I loved the support that Mia had from her sister and she was a sister that everyone wants and needs.

With some intense scenes that are smoking hot, laugh out loud moments, gallery openings, ex-husbands, mums, sisters and a whole heap of other problems you always know that life is not going to run smooth for these two, but one thing that I loved is that they did it all together. Yes there are times when one or the other loses their way a bit, but the thing about love is that it is hard to walk away from and when a love is as strong as theirs you know that despite their troubles, if anyone could make it they could.

“And I know it’s going to happen again. A lot. Because I want it to. A lot.”

In short, I loved this book, it has something for everyone and if it wasn’t for feeling that the end was a bit rushed this would have been a five star read for me. It was refreshing, funny yet incredibly romantic and for me my favourite Erin Noelle book to date.

“It was my pleasure, Uno.”
