“The White House is not just the White House…I see that now. The White House is the world. Help me change it.”

Katy Evans delivers a book that is totally apt considering the current presidential election going on in the US. However, the difference between real life and Katy Evans is that she delivers a candidate that is more than worthy of your vote. By the end of this book it will be Trump who? Hilary who? The name on everyone’s lips will be Matthew Hamilton!!! He sure gets my vote.

Matthew Hamilton was the son of a former president, a president that was assassinated a few years into his second term, a president that was revered by all and a man that had pulled America from the awful state it found itself in, the man was a hero, a legend. Since his father’s death Matthew Hamilton had shied away from the limelight, now older and wiser and with America once again finding itself drowning, Matthew decides to finally fulfil his father’s legacy. Matthew stands for presidency as an independent, no allegiances, no big political team behind him, just himself, his heart and his passion for doing the right thing.

“He was my first crush. He is my boss, and my candidate. And right now he is my very next breath because nothing has ever felt as exciting to me as this man, this man…watching me with such lazy eyes – as if he has no intention of going anywhere.”

Charlotte Wells has politics running through her blood, the daughter of a senator she has been in and around the scene all her life, the highlight of which was meeting the President and the President’s son when she was a shy kid. Charlotte and Matthew hit it off, both cheeky and fighting against the pomp and ceremony as only kids know how. The age gap between them is around thirteen years, but it paled into insignificance as Matthew gave Charlotte something special…her first crush and a crush that has lasted well over a decade. After that first meeting she writes him a letter saying that when he runs for President she will work on his campaign. Matthew’s dad foresaw it, he always introduced his son as “Matthew, your future president.” It may have been in jest, but now could it become a reality and what would the ramifications be for them if it did?

“This woman not only makes me want to be a great man, she makes me want to be the best goddamn president that ever lived.”

Charlotte is more than shocked when Matthew remembers her letter and even more shocked when he calls it in and asks her to join his campaign. It seems that these two made quite the impression on one another as kids because the connection and chemistry between these two is seriously off the charts. Now as adults and now fighting against the political machines and their slur campaigns is this just another case of the wrong time?

“How am I to govern a country when I can’t control my own thoughts of you?”

Katy Evans delivers a story that sizzles, I mean seriously, seriously hot! Katy Evans always gives me that emotional connection I crave and characters that I can love whole heartedly and she didn’t fail once again. I loved the ins and outs of the political side while still keeping a perfect balance with the underlying chemistry and that all important build up to combustion and boy did it combust.

I didn’t realise that this was a duet but as I frantically turned those pages I knew that it wasn’t going to be wrapped up in one book. I actually went in totally blind as I often do. Commander in Chief releases in January, so we don’t have long to wait and after Mr President I am salivating for the next instalment.

“I’ve never been so aware of the price I paid for my victory.”

Review ~ Take Me With You by Nina G Jones

Book Description:

I watch.
I study.
I prowl.
I hunt.

I always go in with a plan. A set of rules for myself. I don't take unnecessary risks. That's how I've been able to evade capture all these years.

But there's something about this girl that is different than the others. When I finally meet her, the rules become a blur. And I break the most important one of all--I take her with me.

-----

It's just my imagination--that feeling of being watched. That those icy eyes-- a vivid turquoise with a distinct golden fleck--aren't watching me.

It's just stress. I am the person everyone relies on. Maybe that's why I haven't been feeling so content with my life lately. Why I dream those eyes belong to someone who can tear me away from all of my responsibilities.

But these are just shameful fantasies, never meant to breach reality.

Then one night, the dream comes true, only it's a horrific nightmare.

Now, I only have one task: survival.

Trigger warning: If you need one, this is really not the book for you.

“There are no heroes in this world, only villains and victims.”

While this is not the darkest book I have read, it is certainly dark and will contain triggers for some. But seeing as I can read almost anything and I have read some dark shit this one didn’t seem to bother me as much as I expected, but there are some definite moments where Nina G Jones pushes you to your limit and she just keeps pressing. This book contains some fucked up shit, it will have you questioning your own morals, your own sanity and yet you will have to turn those pages…this author is the master manipulator herself…each word is like crack…you need more…and more…and more…until you reach the end and then you just sit there in shock, wondering what the hell you just read…and then questioning why you loved it. Did I condone it…definitely not…did I understand the whys…to an extent…did I like the “anti-hero” …errr I plead the fifth.

“Girls like her don't want the beast. They want the idea of one. They want to be safe and still revel in the thrill. But there's no safety with a monster. Because monsters consume. They take your body, your soul, and your innocence.”

This was dark and depraved and exceedingly immoral at times and yet as much as I should have hated Sam…I couldn’t and that is the scariest part about it. When an anti-hero is sick and twisted, a psychopath, evil personified and yet I understood him…yes, that it is right…I understood him!!! WTH!!! I love my crime programmes and my team at Quantico would have loved this one…this was just out of an episode of Criminal Minds and I could just imagine Hotch saying “wheels up in twenty.”  Nina G Jones wrote Sam to perfection, she perfectly captured the bitter, twisted and evil and yet she gave him a heart, even though it was as black as they came…but there was a tinge of red there and it was this tinge that was portrayed perfectly and had you questioning your own sanity.

“I am the person who has nothing to lose but you... And you…are my obsession.”

Sam was a hunter, the evil of the night that stalked and preyed on unsuspecting women until it was too late. He took everything and gave nothing…not even their homes were safe. He was clever, he was calculating, he was like a ghost, uncatchable, unidentifiable, untraceable…he was there…then he wasn’t…until he found the one he couldn’t leave.

“That is a high that love can't touch. Love is a slow burn, a stockpot simmering to soften the heart. But this—this is a flash flood, it's the smoke billowing when a steak hits a hot pan.”

I am not going to say anything about this story, this is one that you need to go into blind and expect the unexpected. Prepare to be tested, prepare to open your mind, prepare to question everything you believe in, prepare to question your own morality as Nina G Jones manipulates and bends every moral you have, your sanity and your heart to suit her own gain.

“He likes the taste of my sadness and I like when he injects me with his venom. He is my danger, my greatest threat.”

Nina G Jones wrote Sam to perfection and there were elements to his past that I could clearly relate, one of his issues I had myself and I think it is this that made him human. I could relate to his past, I could sympathise and empathise with his childhood but I could not condone his actions. It is this that splits you in half, your head telling you one thing and your empathetic self telling you another. What is a mind to do? I love a book that challenges me, I love a book that makes me think and this book did just that. This book had me thinking about it for days after and these characters still won’t leave my muddled mind. So kudos to Nina G Jones. For those that have no boundaries, this is a fantastic read.

“You don't stare the devil in the eyes and come out without some of his sin. You can't beat the devil without becoming like him. You can't appeal to his kindness, so you have to learn to play his games. You lie, you fuck, you manipulate, you fight, you hurl insults, until you do whatever it takes to win the battle.”

Review ~ Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas

Book Description:

“We were perfect together. Until we met.”

Misha

I can’t help but smile at the words in her letter. She misses me.

In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.

It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…

And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.

Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?

Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?

F*ck it. I need to meet her.

I just don’t expect to hate what I find.

Ryen

He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.

Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his number or picture or something.

He could be gone forever.

Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.

“This is a big ass world, and when we leave our small towns, we’re going to find our tribe. If we don’t stay true to ourselves, how will they recognize us?”

Penelope Douglas has become a firm favourite of mine since the Bully series and then of course Corrupt (hottest shower scene EVER!!) This had a Bully vibe about it seeing as bullying was once again at the forefront, but this book gave so much more too. This was about change, changing for the worse because you think it will make you popular. Changing to the point of unrecognition and doing unto others what you have tried your hardest to avoid being done to you. Realising the change is not for the good and loving yourself for you and if others don’t like it…then they’re not worth knowing…it is their loss.

“Eventually we all have to weigh what we want more: wanting back what we had or wanting what could be. To stay or to risk everything to move forward.”

There is a lot of pressure in schools to run with the popular kids, the nerds, the quiet ones, pushed to the side and victims of everyone else’s barbs and the subject of all their pranks and often hurtful antics. They don’t see the other side, they don’t see the pain and suffering underneath that person’s skin, they get their kicks, they do it for shits and giggles, but they don’t get to see the deep rooted affect that their actions have, often with deadly effect. I have been there, I was a victim for a long time and so for me, these kinds of books always hit me in the heart, because I know the pain.

“Alone, Empty, Fraud, Shame, Fear, Close your eyes, there’s nothing to see out here.”

This book once again has it all, drama, angst, passion, emotion…something that Penelope Douglas excels at. Her understanding of teenagers always relays perfectly through her written word and it is this that delivers a book that feels genuine, it is real, it could happen…it does happen.

“We’re all ugly, Ryen. The only difference is, some hide it and some wear it.”

Ryen was not a likeable character in the beginning, she ran with the popular crowd, she wasn’t necessarily the voice, but she was the quiet one that sat back and watched everything else unfold. She protected herself while regaling in the delights of her popularity, but underneath that façade you knew that there was a lovable girl underneath. Ryen was the victim of peer pressure, the pressure to conform…her sister was her opposite and she is basically forced to change to fit in her own family, even if it goes against every grain of her being. She was tired of being a liability.

“And then when I found out she was popular, not an outcast, and a cardboard cut-out, not at all original, I became angry. She led me to believe those things, and my muse was a lie. Until yesterday in the parking lot when I bit and she bit back. That’s my Ryen. And I want to see more.”

Misha was another quiet one, yet popular. He was in a band but he was the brooding songwriter. He came from wealth and a family that were “the town.” He didn’t ride on those coat tails though and disassociated himself from the family name as soon as he was able, he wanted to make it on his own. Misha was deep, his thoughts and dialogue lyrical as his world revolved around lyrics and music, he was an old soul with a heart of gold.

“We were perfect for each other. Until we met.”

Misha and Ryen had been pen pals since they were little kids, their teachers setting them up thinking they were the same sex. It soon became apparent they weren’t but they continued anyways. Now in their late teens, they still hadn’t met. These two had developed a soul deep connection with their written words. They confided in one another, they knew everything about the other, the wrote songs together. These two lived for each other’s letters, they had each other on a pedestal, they were as close as close could be without actually being in each other’s company.

“No one does you better than you. You can’t be replaced. Not everyone will see that, but only you need to.”

One night Misha’s life changes in more ways than one and unknown to Ryen they have now met. Ryen is not what she seemed and Misha needs to know more and he doesn’t like what he sees. Misha the alpha ass hole is born and no-one does an asshole as good as Penelope Douglas. While I should have cringed I loved every bit as these two finally get to get under each other’s skin in more ways than one. It doesn’t take Misha long to understand the situation that Ryen is in, but how can he come clean now as to his true identity?

“You just got a whole lot more interesting.”

The sexual chemistry, the love hate, that underlying burning of passion makes this an unputdownable read. Penelope Douglas captured my attention from the start and didn’t relent till the very end. Once again a captivating read.

“But I love the way you lie.”

***ARC received for an honest review***

“As momma used to say, ‘Best to leave farts and the past behind you.’”

I always knew that Cletus’s story would be amazing, but I have to take off my hat to Penny Reid because she really brought Cletus to life with her words. Such was the intricate nature of Penny Reid’s writing that I could clearly picture and hear Cletus with every word I read, every little nuance of his personality and mannerisms was captured perfectly. He was always the Winston that captured my attention the most, eccentric, quiet, clever, conniving, closed off…who was Cletus Winston?

Cletus is the master manipulator, but never for his own gain, he was a modern day Superman without the dressing up, he was the modern day Robin Hood, he righted a lot of wrongs even if he does go about it the wrong way…but, his intentions were always good.

Jennifer Sylvester is the Banana Cake Queen and has been for years. Jennifer is a master baker and has the whole town salivating over her baked goods. Jennifer though is extremely sheltered, was home schooled by her parents and now their reign of dominance continues. Jennifer works seventy to eighty hours per week for NOTHING! Her parents dictate her life from her phone calls to clothing and accessories, she is as under the thumb as under the thumb can be. Her mother has her dressed like a 1950’s Mary Berry all in the name of “branding.” She cannot think for herself for fear of the repercussions, so she just goes with the flow, until she starts to begin to grow a backbone.

“I’m basically the Rocky Balboa of bakers. I’m unstoppable!”

All Jennifer wants is a husband and family, something to call her own and something she knows that she is never going to achieve without help. Her parents have given her a list of eligible suitors but for once Jennifer wants to do something for herself, repercussions be damned. While filming something for herself she inadvertently catches Cletus on film on one of his Robin Hood missions, but it is something that he could get into HUGE trouble for. Being the good law abiding citizen she is she…blackmails him!! Help me find a husband!

“Where these two yokels saw a weak, sensitive flower—an angelic pushover, ripe for the pushing—I saw an opportunist in banana-cake clothing.”

Cletus is ADORABLE, he knows that he has a tough job ahead of him and being on the receiving end of blackmail is definitely a novelty, but as with anything Cletus does, he doesn’t go in half assed. He has to find out who Jennifer Sylvester really is underneath the façade that her parents have built around her. This is a mission in itself, self-confidence is the biggest issue and breaking her away from her parent’s apron strings is a mammoth undertaking…but what happens when hearts get involved?

“Together we would not be perfectly pragmatic. We would be impressively impractical.”

These two were perfect for each other, even if they couldn’t see it. Jennifer was a people watcher, she may have been meek and timid but she garnered a lot of information and ammunition just from her eyes. Cletus the master manipulator who could turn any bad situation on its head and come out smelling of roses…these two could make a formidable team.

“You seize that woman, Cletus. You make her yours. And then after,” still grinning, Duane dropped his hand on my shoulder and gave me a little shake, “you give that woman your sausage.”

With all the Winston’s making their appearances this story really involves the family as a whole, from practice dates, to pregnancy crazes, talent competitions to putting his sausage in her pie. This book had me in tears of laughter as well as a few stray ones on the opposite end of the spectrum. As with any Penny Reid book her ever present wit is prevalent throughout and once again leads to a well-balanced unputdownable read. I am seriously in awe of this woman’s penmanship. Every story I have read now has had me one hundred percent invested, totally transported into her character’s worlds and lives, this was not simply reading a book, this was a journey and one that I absolutely loved.

“I’d found my tribe. I’d found my people. I’d found my person. And I’d found myself.”

Excerpt:

“I saw what you did.”

“You saw what I did.” He repeated flatly, apparently bored with me and the conversation. His eyes were on the rear-view mirror.

But I would not be ignored. Not this time.

Gathering every ounce of courage within me, I blurted, “I saw what you did, last week, with the Iron Wraiths evidence. You took it. And now they can’t find it, and now they’re dropping the case against Razor.”

Finally, Cletus looked at me. To my astonishment, his typically green eyes had become a fiery blue and he snapped, “You saw no such thing.”

“I did." I nodded at my assertion. "In fact, I have a video of you doing it.”

He blinked. His expression and his voice, usually so controlled, both cracked with surprise. “You did what?”

“I recorded it, on my phone.” I swallowed three times for no reason.

His gaze sharpened in such a way that startled me, as though clouds or an illusionary mist parted and revealed a slight glimpse of the real Cletus Winston beneath. These new eyes flickered over my person.

“Prove it.” His demand was sharp and quick, like a whip, and made my heart jump to my throat.

I pulled my phone from my purse with trembling fingers. I knew why I was shaking. I wasn’t used to confrontation. I was a natural pacifist, preferring peace to sass. But desperate times called for desperate measures.

He snatched my cell once I’d unlocked it and tapped through the series of screens until he reached my videos. He found the one dated last week, the one I’d taken of Sheriff James talking about my banana cake and hit play. As Cletus watched, a touch of color drained from his cheeks. He was seeing what I’d spotted last week when I reviewed the recording. One half of the screen was the sheriff. The other half of the screen was Cletus in the background, pocketing the evidence, looking around, then walking away.

Cletus made a strangled noise that sounded both frustrated and enraged. I eyed the door next to me, considering and immediately dismissing an escape. Meanwhile, he watched the recording again. When it ended for a second time, silence took its place, hard and heavy between us. I examined his profile, endeavoring to parse his thoughts.

Cletus’ expression was blank, which—I abruptly realized—was highly unusual. He always wore an expression. Thoughtful, concerned, patient, bored, interested, somber, perturbed. How odd, for a person to always have an expression . . . unless that person wore emotions like a mask, meant to misdirect the true nature of his thoughts.

“You made a copy?” His tone, laden with ice and granite, made me shiver.

He didn’t sound at all like the bumbling but affable Cletus Winston I’d known since forever. He sounded . . . dangerous.

I needed to clear my throat before I could speak. “I did. I made a few. Saved in a few places.”

The side of his mouth ticked up, but his eyes lacked humor as he turned them back to me. “That was smart. Otherwise I would have smashed your phone into a quantity of tiny pieces. Then it would have been your word against mine.”

“That’s right,” I said the words on a breath, the good sense of fear wrestling with determination.

But, damn it, I need his help! And it had to be him. It just had to. He could make anything happen. Everyone in town and the surrounding areas owed him a favor. I'd heard the rumors. I'd paid attention. I'd put the puzzle pieces together.

And now I had the most powerful man in east Tennessee right where I needed him.

Friday Frights ~ PNR Review ~ Tricked (Dark Protectors #7.75) by Rebecca Zanetti

Book Description:

He Might Save Her

Former police psychologist Ronni Alexander had it all before a poison attacked her heart and gave her a death sentence. Now, on her last leg, she has an opportunity to live if she mates a vampire. A real vampire. One night of sex and a good bite, and she’d live forever with no more weaknesses. Well, except for the vampire whose dominance is over the top, and who has no clue how to deal with a modern woman who can take care of herself.

She Might Kill Him

Jared Reese, who has no intention of ever mating for anything other than convenience, agrees to help out his new sister in law by saving her friend’s life with a quick tussle in bed. The plan seems so simple. They’d mate, and he move on with his life and take risks as a modern pirate should. Except after one night with Ronni, one moment of her sighing his name, and he wants more than a mating of convenience. Now all he has to do is convince Ronni she wants the same thing. Good thing he’s up for a good battle.

I have read the Dark Protectors Series from the very beginning and it is amazing and this Novella is no different. It has lots of action, very hot sex and two brilliant characters in Ronni Alexander and Jared Reese.

Ronni is a psychologist who had worked for the police until someone had done their best to kill her by poison and now she is dying. Her best friend Olivia (Olly), having a vampire for a boyfriend and future mate came up with the solution to save Ronni. To mate with a vampire and she would be saved.

Jared is Olly's future brother-in-law and she has persuaded him to help Ronni and mate with her best friend so that she could live. It was to be a mating of convenience.

Jared had been badly hurt by another woman, a witch, more than two hundred years ago so having no plans on ever getting involved again was quite happy to oblige as it suited him as well. That was until he actually met and really got to know Ronni. You could say it was the biggest clash of fiery personalities ever. It was sure going to be interesting and never a dull moment between these two but something they couldn't argue over was the deep attraction between them which led to them sharing some very hot sex.

“Her pulse beat wildly against his fingers, and she could only stare at those midnight dark eyes. Hunger. Raw and untamed, hunger glinted there with a determination that stole any words she might've said.”

There is so much going on in this book. With enemies coming from all directions, keeping the pace of the book fast and page turning. Also there is a blast from Jared's past coming to cause trouble but through it all the very hot attraction between Ronni and Jared does not go away, in fact it brings out that deadly pirate that was Jared of old and if anyone tries to hurt Ronni look out because he doesn't play nice.

Thoroughly enjoyable quick read Ms Zanetti, keep them coming.

Now, with money-sucking vultures, douchebags by the dozens, and a horde of total hotties just waiting to get their mangy paws on my newfound fortune, I set out to locate the man who gifted me the winning ticket–to properly thank him.

However, when I finally find the cocky, self-absorbed business tycoon, Teague Goodman, I’m not sure whether I want to slap him… or ring his MEGABALLS.

“Wealth is not what you have in your bank account, but what you have in your heart.”

Erin Noelle tackles a new genre with her first foray into Romantic Comedy. Megaballs is a light hearted read with a healthy dose of Mr Sexy Eyes and a cute six-year-old kid that could have stood her own with the blue rinse brigade.

Finley Farewell is a young woman struggling to support herself, her sister and niece. While Finley’s sister has delusions of grandeur, Finley is more grounded, sensible and serious, she keeps their heads above water even though it feels like a sinking ship most of the time. Finley works at an Italian restaurant where the waitresses are akin to Hooters but more up market, relying on her tips to keep them afloat a sleazy manager is easy to stomach when the clientele are high rollers. Late once again because of her sister Finley is thrust into work where one of the men in her section catches her attention, well his eyes at least.

“That’s it, old man. Succumb to the power of the titties. You know you want to.”

Teague Goodman is the CEO of his family’s farm business, a young entrepreneur that has seen the business flourish and become a multi-million-dollar company. With success comes resentment and jealousy and none more so from the huge conglomerates that want even more of the lions share that they already have. Now in the fight of his life against one of the said greedy conglomerates, Teague’s bad day gets worse and off to drown his sorrows he ends up in the restaurant where Finley works.

Finley is a klutz and it seems that this trait of hers is desperate to get her in Teague’s lap in more ways than one. With laughs aplenty during their first meet I had tears as Finley definitely makes a hair raising impression. Mr Sexy Eyes as Finley calls him seems to reciprocate the intense chemistry however, when Finley’s back is turned Mr Sexy Eyes has gone leaving only a note on a lottery ticket. A lottery ticket that wins the Megaballs Jackpot that night.

Finley’s life is thrust into the spotlight and her life has definitely changed forever, but she cannot get Mr Sexy Eyes out of her mind. With a sister that is all about the money and how quick she can max out her cards and a meddling niece that only has her best interests at heart the search for Mr Sexy Eyes is on.

“…you can have all the money in the world, but until you truly love someone, it’s all just empty riches.”

Fiona, Finley’s niece made this book for me, written well beyond her years, her dry sense of humour and wise comments gave me a grin from ear to ear. At times I felt as if her dialogue was too “adult” but am aware that there are kids out there that are mini Einstein’s, but being the mother of a rather intelligent six-year-old myself I found it a tad unbelievable.

“Sometimes I swear there’s no possible way I can be her child. I mean, seriously. Not only do we look nothing alike, like as opposite as you can be and still have the same skin color, but I think my IQ surpassed hers in the womb.”

I did have a few laughs but for me this was more a contemporary romance. The romcom’s that I have read thus far are normally over the top or high on innuendo and while this had some witty banter I just felt that situations were included just to be funny, it felt a little forced, but funny none the less. In summary though, this was a cute read, a lot of fun and highly entertaining. I loved Finley and Teague as a couple and while it was instalust these two were really suited…sometimes you just know, I know I did.

He has a girlfriend? With my name? Please tell me I’m still asleep and this is just one of those strange, ridiculous dreams that makes no sense whatsoever. Though, I do hope that kiss in the kitchen was real… unless, of course, he does in fact have a girlfriend, and then I just want to punch him in the nutsack for being a cheating asshole.

“Oh, shit,” Teague hisses, as he runs into the back of me, seeing as how I’ve stopped dead in my tracks just before turning the corner to the front foyer. “What in the—”

“Teague!” Fiona yells, cutting him off. “Some twat named Finley who claims to be your girlfriend is here, and she doesn’t look anything like my bloody auntie!”

He grabs my arms and spins me around, panic painting his expression as he stares deeply into my eyes. “This isn’t what it looks like. I swear to you. I’ll tell you everything. Just let me get rid of her. Stay right here.”

The Bow Tie is Back!
PREPPY by T.M. Frazier is LIVE!

Book Description:

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.

For Preppy and Dre, death was only the beginning.

This is the fifth book in the King Series and it's meant to be read after Soulless.

“No! I hate you,” she spat, as I continued to tug her beside me.

“Good, you can hate me while I fuck you,” I said. “But first things first. My lesson obviously didn’t take in that brain of yours. You want what you want and I can’t stop you,” I said, as we approached the train tracks which were elevated on a mound of gravel several feet off the ground. The warning lights flashed orange, the neon reflective barriers dropped down to cover the service road, while the bells indicating an approaching train clanged away. “And since I can’t stop you, I’m going to help you out. Bullet in the head was so three hours ago. I’ve got something even better in mind now.”

“Wait. What?” she asked, her teeth chattering. “You…you wouldn’t.”

“Wouldn’t what?” I said, turning around to face her, almost losing my footing when I noticed the trail of dried tears on her cheeks. I looked away for a fraction of a second to regain my composure. “You think I wouldn’t kill someone?” I cocked an eyebrow. “You already know that I’ve been there, done that, bought the motherfucking t-shirt, doll.” Her eyes went wide and she made a move to step back. “Oh no, Doc, I read your letter and I saw what you wanted. And remember, I’m nothing if not accommodating.”

When I pulled her to climb the gravel mound her knees locked up so I bent over and picked her up by the waist, tossing her over my shoulder, carrying her onto the tracks while she beat on my back with her closed fists. When I got to the top I set her down roughly and she fell backwards onto her ass, bracing herself with her hands against the large pieces of gravel under the tracks.

The whistle of the train blew in the distance. It wouldn’t be long now. Dre made a move to stand up, but that wasn’t what I had in mind. I bent down and pushed on her chest, spreading her tiny frame across the tracks. I crawled on top of her, pinning her down with my thighs. I leaned over her, my chest to hers as we both breathed rapidly. She struggled underneath me to get up, pushing at my chest, but I wouldn’t budge. “Why the struggle, Doc? This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”

She glanced up at me as the train whistled again. Her gaze flipped to her right, where the single yellow light from the train emerged from around the corner, shining brighter and brighter as it chugged closer and closer. For a moment she stopped struggling, looking back and forth from the train to me.

“So what, you’re gonna die too?” she asked, hoping to appeal to my sense of self preservation.

I shrugged. “I get bored easily, maybe the devil will make me his errand boy or something.”

“Preppy, this isn’t funny. Get up and get off the fucking tracks,” she said, her concern shifting from herself to me.

I shook my head and yawned. She wiggled underneath me, and although there was a train barreling toward us my cock once again stirred to life. Maybe I should just rip down her panties and push inside of her. Train or no train, it would be one fuck of a way to go out.

“You have to choose, Doc,” I said, making my voice as serious as I was capable. “Life?” I asked, screaming over the sound of the train screeching against the track. I pushed my hard cock against her core and she gasped. Her trembling turned into a shiver, her mouth fell open. I glanced to the side at the blinding light of the approaching train as it bathed us both in a tunnel of light. I leaned down, so close that my lips were a whisper above hers, as I shouted, “Life? Or death? What’s it gonna be, Doc?” My hair blew around my face as the light grew brighter and brighter. “Answer the fucking question!” I demanded, my hands squeezing her shoulders, my fingers digging roughly into her skin. “DO YOU WANT TO FUCKING DIE?”

With only seconds left until we became shredded under the train, Dre closed her eyes and sighed. When she opened them again they were glistening, fresh tears spilling from the edges.

She started to speak, her lips forming the beginning of the word, but before it could fully leave her lips I stood, pulling her up with me. I lifted Dre into my arms and took a running leap off the tracks, my legs flailing in the air as we fell the seven or so feet. Dre’s decision still on her lips, her scream surrounding the air around us as we crashed down into the field.

“I wanna liiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee.”
