Torn Between Two (Torn Duet #1)
by Mia Kayla
Cover Design: Perfect Pear Creative Covers
Release Date: January 23, 2017
Book Description:
I believe in fairy tales — the kind where a knight in shining armor sweeps me off my feet. Coming from a broken home, fairy tales housed the hope I clung to. Never in my life did I imagine two knights coming into my life— two knights that wore very different armor. A rockstar versus a lawyer. Fast and furious versus deliberate and calculated. Intense and passionate versus strong and devoted. Chaos versus stability. I fell in love with one in the craziness of a concert. I fell in love with the other in the silence of his compassion. And now I am Torn Between Two.

“What did you take…”
Mia Kayla is a new to me author and this was a book that
called to me on the synopsis alone, I am a sucker for a love triangle. It took
me a little while to get invested in this book but I have to say, by the end I
found myself itching for book two.
“I wasn't this girl, unstable and
weak. I prided myself on always making the right choices, concise decisions.
But I was also never the girl who rock stars called.”
Sam, in the beginning, I felt was a strong character, she
knew what she wanted, she had her standards and wasn’t afraid to stick to them,
but all that changed when she came face to face with the man that she had
idolised for years and years. Sam was a pastry sous chef and was working until
she could enrol in a Cordon Bleu school to refine her art. She was career
minded and had high aspirations as to where she could get to once all her
training was over. One night, Sam was presented with the opportunity of a life
time, one that most never get and she grabbed it with both hands. Having
watched her favourite band in concert, she follows the band to a club where
they are letting their hair down. When she comes face to face with the man that
she has been fantasising about for years though, the air crackles and it doesn’t
seem to be one sided.
“He tasted like cigarettes, beer,
and one hundred percent bad boy.”
Hawke was a bit of a flaky character, but in the first
instance he did seem to be sincere with his feelings towards Sam. At the end of
the day though, he is a rock star. He is on tour, he is away a lot and seems to
enjoy the trappings that fame, fortune and the music industry in general bring
him. But, can he change? Does he want to change? This man is troubled though,
he has a very tight circle of people he trusts else he trusts no-one. His
family life was awful and he is still feeling the repercussions to this day.
His past just doesn’t seem to want to let him go.
“Because…I’m lonely.”
Sam meets Josh while shopping for shoes and I have to say,
Josh is adorable with a capital A. Even though he comes from an affluent family
he is determined not to be tied to their apron strings or be their puppet and
as such is putting himself through law school, if it means topping up his coffers
selling shoes at Niemen Marcus then so be it. Josh is the complete opposite of
Hawke, he is sincere, grounded, charismatic and has a great sense of humour.
Sam, having just met Hawke and not sure where she stands,
friend zones Josh but throughout this book there is no denying just how head
over heels in love Josh is with his best friend. As the synopsis states…
“A rockstar versus a lawyer.
Fast and furious versus
deliberate and calculated.
Intense and passionate versus
strong and devoted.
Chaos versus stability.”
This is a duet and book two, Choosing Forever releases on 13th
Feb, just in time for Valentine’s Day and you will want it with grabby ends as
this book ends. Mia Kayla delivered an addictive read, one I didn’t want to put
down even though in the first instance I struggled with the writing style. For
me, the choice is easy, or at least on a common-sense scale, should be easy but
there is something about Hawke that really got to me. Despite his seemingly
ambivalent attitude towards Sam, I am sure that for him, his feelings are
honest and true or at least as honest and true as he can give and there was something
about him opening up to Sam that just may have melted my heart towards him. But
the few and far between texts, calls and booty calls constantly seemed to
undermine that.
“Every part of me believed that,
this time, maybe he wasn’t playing a part. It wasn’t just an act, and he was
seeing me for real. Just maybe.”
I cannot wait to see where this story goes, what will Sam do
or has her choice already been made for her?
“Life’s a box of shit sometimes.”

Book Description:
Life is made up of choices. Single choices like bricks laid out in a path. A path that leads to your future. At twenty four years old, I would have never guessed I would be stuck between two men—two men from opposite spectrums of the universe. Their lives, their worlds, their demeanor is as different as the darkest of nights and the lightest of days. I love them both, but I have to choose. There is only one choice I can make. And I choose forever.
